ABOUT THE MIX:

Those of you who went clubbing in the 1990s may recognize some of the classic tracks heard here. This mix is what a house set from me would sound like (and look like if you click on the YouTube Video mix button below), but the influence and vibe comes from the master DJs at the decks here in Philly at that time.

Cats like King Britt, DJ Dozia (Back To Basics @ Silk City — If you know, you know!), Josh Wink, Nigel Richards (611 Records), Rob Paine, Willyum (Soulmonic Sound System), Hollis P. Monroe, Hito, Deep C, Chris Udoh, Randal Jones (The Tigerhook Crew), Jeff Hart, Roland Riso, Jenn Louie (The Wiggle Productions Crew), Imri, Vince, (Reflective Crew), Sean Thomas, O’Keefe, and Pete Moss.

These people were playing the clubs here in Philly, and bringing the sounds they found in their travels wherever they found records. Some of these tracks are mash-ups — like “Smoke Everyday” by Gary Caos, or remixes — like “Groove Is In The Heart (Original De-Booty Mix) by Gianni Bini & Liz Hill, but all of them carry the House Music vibe of the 1990s. Then there are tracks that are the pure embodiment of house back in that time, like the unforgettable “House Music (Message Mix)” by Eddie Amador, as well as a exquisite re-work of “Voices” from Monki to start things off right.
