ABOUT DAIBUTSU MUSIC

Daibutsu Music is an electronic music imprint founded and run by Brian K. James. His vision for the label is not only one with filled dance floors across the globe, but in video games, television, and both independent and feature films as well. His dedication to the craft of obtaining the best output for what he dreams up is nothing short of impressive, and emotional.

Back in the late 80’s and early 90’s, he began to participate in any way he could in the Philadelphia rave scene. Going to parties, making friends, and taking part in as many collectives, and groups as would have him. Claiming the title “The Engineer” (taken from a very personal event with this father), and acquiring a hat that he saw in a store on South Street (Veem) during the early days of the rave scene, Brian wanted to make his mark. Once he started buying records and DJing, the flood gates of his imagination were well open. It was evident that there wasn’t a way to stop him.

In 2004, Apple released the music making app, GarageBand, which Brian took to immediately. He began writing his own pieces, and playing them out using his laptop, and a controller. Later, a second revelation came in 2008. A trip to Japan, that he happened to learn about, quite literally changed his life, and gave him a nuclear boost further into himself. On the plane ride home, he decided that the next piece of his puzzle was in creating an outlet for his work. A brand. It was to be called Daibutsu Music, named after an experience in front of the ancient Daibutsu statute in Kamakura, Japan.

It is this statue, that became the beginnings of the Daibutsu Music label, and it’s first offspring, The Buddha Beats Podcast, where Brian brings his mixes of house and techno to the forefront in Philly, as only Brian knows how.

With his goals set, his mind open, and a flow unending, prepare for the output of Daibutsu Music.
