First and foremost, I’d like to say thank you to some very special people whom without their belief in me, this event wouldn’t have begun to take shape in my head, and it would just have been another number and not a milestone worth celebrating.
Darian Jerard / ROGUE
When I first met Darian, it was in the 1990s, and he was bouncing at Silk City Lounge for King Britt and DJ Dozia’s Back To Basics party. That party lasted for years, and I attended the last 4 years of their run, and would talk to Darian when I came outside to get some air. As time marched on, everyone seemed to fade out of the scene and into the “normal” way of life. But Darian and I believe in nightlife, the freedom it brings, and the necessity of having someplace to go and be with like-minded people. Thank you Darian for all the work you do in the scene, and helping shape it and us to make the best impact that we can.
Khaleel “The Funkboy” Mason / Underground Expressions
Over the years, I had heard of a Philly DJ named “Funkboy”, but had never been to a party that he was playing. Who knew that later, in 2017, we would meet for the first time, and in another country! A mutual friend had gotten an Ibiza DJ gig tour, and asked us to come with him. We played Bar Amsterdam, Mumak, and Aperture Terrace together, and people loved our sets, and were asking us where we were from! We had such a good time that when it was time to come home, we agreed to work on bringing our styles of DJing back to Philly together, and get back out there in a bigger way. Khaleel is hands down one of the best underground house DJs in Philadelphia, and I am proud to call him not only my friend but my family. Thank you Khaleel for all of your hard work, your passion for music, and believing in me.
Brian Fellman / Anthracite
We had been going to a lot of the same events when I first ran into Brian Fellman. We got the talking and was invited to his home for a Fourth Of July cookout, and did a 30-min DJ set that he really took notice of. When he went on for a few minutes, I knew right then that this was someone who played for the love of the music. Sure, most DJs have a love of the music, but this was a set you could feel instantly. It didn’t take a few songs to “get there”. You were immediately teleported to wherever Brian wanted you to be. To this very day, every set of his that I hear, still has that same power, and that same love of the music for music’s sake in it. He has been there to make sure that I don’t overthink things, and to keep the insane amount of creative noise in my brain down, and when to take a break. Thank you Brian, it’s our love of the music, technology, our hopes for a better humanity that keeps us working together, and checking in on one another like family ought to. Love ya dude!
To my staff: Mike, Adrienne, Izzy, Elliot, Matthew, Lawrence and Ash
What can I say but thank you for your continued support in my goals of bringing people together through music. This is not an easy road to travel, and to know that you all are here to help lighten my load even a little bit is immensely appreciated. Having you all there to help see this come to life keeps me sane, and wanting to do even better next time. Oh yes, there is more to come! Again, THANK YOU.
To those who came out to support the event:
Thank you for choosing to come to my celebration. You had many options that night. We were one of FIVE parties within a ONE BLOCK radius. I had chosen October 26th 7-8 months prior, and didn’t find out until arriving to set up our party that there was two others were in the same building as my event, and two more events across the street. Yet, you chose to come and support my efforts. Thank you SO much.
Photos and videos to come soon. Stay tuned.
