BUDDHA BEATS 76 - DEEP & DISCO HOUSE
ABOUT THE MIX:
February 23rd, 2022, and the COVID-19 Pandemic is still going on. The rise of crime and violence has climbed to a point where you have to seriously think about going out, with all the robberies, murders, and carjacking going on. With all of that going on, it got me thinking about all the fun nights I’ve had, clubs and raves I’d been to, the people I had met at them, and all the amazing music I’ve heard. Almost subconsciously, I immediately went to the computer and started picking tracks that would have me on the floor all night back then. When I was finished, I looked over the track list and then it hit me — I had created the longest house set for the show. And it covers quite a few shades of house music too!
I started the set with some choice deep house selections, and made my way to funky house, jackin’ house, house classics, and into one of my favorite shades of house, DISCO HOUSE. This mix is an example of how a house night would flow, with a healthy mix of easily recognizable tracks, with some mutated ones to capture the attention of todays dance floor. I imagined spinning this set at my favorite haunts from here in Philly: Silk City Saturdays, Wednesdays at Milkbar (which later became Shampoo), The Trocadero (so sad that this place closed it’s doors), Love Lounge, Egypt, The Warehouse, Gotham, Taylor’s & Sanctuary (in NJ), Club 111, Revival, The Bank (later to become Transit), The Palmer Social Club (later becomes Trilogy), Motion (Philly’s largest nightclub, which I played at, and wish was still around), Club 1415, and a club that I “lived” at, XERO, which became one of the hottest underground spots in Philly: Fluid Nightclub. I miss that place so much.
If you’re a raver or club-kid from the Philadelphia area, these spots and many others are part of who you are. Those hot, sweaty nights, where race, financial status, car you drove, the job you had, didn’t matter. Back then it was all about the music, and having a good time through dancing. Still the best way to exercise, and the most cathartic way I know to ease the soul. Rather than wish for a device or vehicle that would take us back to that time, I think we can bring all of that music, care for one another, and love for scene, forward into today and leave the negative vibes at home. This mix is a non-stop, TWO HOUR ride through five shades of house music. Even Axel Foley makes an appearance. If you know, you know. (wink)
As with all the mixes, this was all done in ONE take, no edits. Video of the mix being made at the end of the track listing. ENJOY!
